Design-Build Estimator

Purpose

The Design‑Build Estimator is a key contributor to the success of our projects, responsible for developing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for a wide range of electrical work. This role works closely with engineers, architects, and project managers to understand project requirements, review design documents, and determine the labor, materials, and equipment needed. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate across teams are essential.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Review drawings, specifications, and contract documents to determine project scope.

  • Work with architects, engineers, and construction teams to identify cost‑effective solutions and value‑engineering opportunities.

  • Solicit pricing from suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors for materials, equipment, and labor.

  • Prepare detailed estimates covering labor, materials, equipment, and overhead.

  • Conduct site visits to gather measurements, assess conditions, and identify potential challenges or required upgrades.

  • Use estimating software and spreadsheets to build cost breakdowns and forecasts.

  • Evaluate subcontractor and vendor proposals to ensure competitive and accurate pricing.

  • Maintain cost‑tracking tools and update project databases as needed.

  • Communicate cost requirements, updates, and recommendations to project managers and stakeholders.

  • Stay informed on industry trends, new technologies, and evolving installation methods.

  • Ideally bring established customer relationships and help recruit qualified electricians to support company growth.

  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications / Licenses & Experience

  • Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred but not required.

  • Demonstrated experience as a design‑build estimator in the construction or electrical industry.

  • Strong analytical and mathematical abilities with experience building cost models.

  • Proficiency with estimating tools such as Bluebeam, Accubid, ConEst, or similar platforms.

  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office, especially Outlook and Teams.

  • Experience with field service management software (e.g., Simpro) is a plus.

  • Understanding of construction contracts, codes, and regulations.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with diverse teams.

  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and meet deadlines under pressure.

  • Knowledge of sustainable building practices is beneficial.
